It’s the summer before eighth grade for 13-year-old Esther “Essie” Hamilton, and she and her parents have just moved across the country to Coronado, California. In her new home, she finds a mysterious photograph in the attic and learns that her mind has the power to bring that photo to life! Soon, the power grows to include other objects—which together begin to reveal a secret about Essie’s family and her new home.
In Coronado, Essie makes two friends, Miles and Charlie, as she navigates feelings of love, frustration, excitement, and awkwardness. The story is told in six parts, each bringing Essie a little closer to solving the mystery—and a little closer to one of her new friends!
